History The museum was created in 1902 raised in origin as Historical, Artistic and Archaeological Museum the section of Ethnography was included in 1914. The museum has been located in several sedate until, in 1932, it(he,she) comes to San Telmo's convent. San Telmo is a convent Dominican of the 16th century, since then, has been in use as convent, barrack and museum. Declared National Monument reflects the traffic of the Gothic style to the Renaissance one.
The edicficio The current museum there is situated in a former convent Dominican of middle of the 16th century, which cloister and tower were declared National Monument in 1913.
The original trace was realized in 1542 by the Dominican Fray Martin of Santiago who projected a building typical of the monastic architecture of the 16th century, similar to San Esteban's convent of Salamanca, also of the Dominicans. The works began in 1544 and after several modifications, extended until 1562.
It is a building of transition between(among) the Gothic art and the Renaissance one and it is considered the only(unique) of Guipuzcoa copy(specimen) of what has been called "a" "Elizabethan" architecture.
